Macintosh • Claris FileMaker Pro 2.X • 14” or larger Color Monitor
FEATURES
1. This is a 14 month planner covering December of the previous year through January of the following year. Multi year versions are now available. See details below.
2. Provides Daily, Weekly (Mon-Sat), and Monthly views
3. Print your weekly schedule using the [Print] button in the weekly view.
4. Monthly view is in the traditional grid lay-out with all dates visible on a 14” monitor. It can also be printed as a full 8 1/2 x 11 (landscape) format. Use the [Print] button at the top of the calendar instead of the print option in the File pull down menu.
5. Includes Calendar Maker which can generate a monthly grid for any month in any year!
6. Provides a schedule of Appointments, To Do List, and Daily Notes
7. Reschedule items in your "To Do List" automatically using the To Do List Manager.
8. The Schedule (Appointments) section allows up to 10 entries. Unlike most calendar programs, there is no preassigned slot for each hour of the day. You enter the time and event in whatever format you choose. The first five entries will be visible on the weekly and monthly screens. Entries will be truncated to fit the available space in each box. To get a printed schedule showing all 10 entries, click on the [Print] button in the Weekly view.
9. The daily screen features a miniature calendar of the month. Click on the [Year] button to see a calendar of the entire year.
10. Help screens are available. Look for the [?] button. These help screens will explain most of the available features and mechanics of the program.
11. The Daily Planner can be reset for each new year. This reset option can be performed anytime each December. This feature requires the presence of a special "Planner Reset" file which performs the calculations that are necessary for a new year. This one Planner Reset file will function for any and every year and is available upon payment of the shareware fee. Click the [Reset] button on the menu screen for more information.
12. This file is not password protected, so feel free to poke around and customize the template to your needs. Be careful to avoid altering any key fields or data that are needed for the proper function of the template. (More about Customizing the Daily Planner below)
INSTALLATION AND USE
Keep all files together in the Planner folder, so that all scripts and look-ups will funtion properly. Do not rename any of the files.
1. The “Planner” folder contains the following files:
• Daily Planner - This is the main file. Double click on the Daily Planner to access all features.
• Calendar - This file is used by the Daily Planner for the monthly view and contains Calendar Maker.
• Daily Planner Help - Contains Help screens, accessible from the main menu or by clicking the [?] buttons in Daily Planner
• Updater 1.4 - This file contains a script for moving your records and entries to version 1.4 from an older version (1.1 or later). See instructions below.
2. Tip: Place an alias of the Daily Planner on the desktop or in your "Apple Menu Items" folder for easy access.
3. The [Month] button on the daily screen will build a traditional grid view of the month and update the calendar with all your Schedule entries. This process will take a few seconds. For an instant view of the monthly Calendar without the schedule updates, choose "Calendar" from the Window pull down menu.
MOVING YOUR RECORDS TO VERSION 1.4
The file, Updater 1.4, will transfer your records from your old Daily Planner(1.xx) to version 1.4. Your old version and version 1.4 must be for the same year.
1. First rename your old Daily Planner to “Daily Planner.Old”, exactly as shown!
2. Move “Daily Planner.Old” into your Planner1.4 folder.
3. Daily Planner and the updater should also be in the Planner1.4 folder.
4. Open the Updater File and click on the [Update] button. All entries from your Schedule, To Do Lists, and Notes will be imported into the new version.
5. Registered users: Move your Planner Reset file to the new folder. Registered users of versions prior to 1.3 may request a new Planner Reset file to correct a minor flaw in the yearly calendar screen. Contact me via E mail to receive your free update.
5. Trash “Daily Planner.Old” and your old Planner folder.
PAGE SETUP AND PRINTING
Page Setup options must be restored to insure correct page orientation for printing. This procedure is required only once and would have to be repeated only if you change the printer that you use with this file.
1. Open the Daily Planner and click on the [Month] button, or select Calendar from the Window pull down menu.
2. When the calendar appears, choose “Page Setup” from the File pull down menu and select the landscape (horizontal) print orientation and click OK. *
3. Click the Planner button to return to the planner.
4. Choose “Page Setup” from the File menu and select the portrait (vertical) orientation and click OK. *
5. Different printers may change the page position of your monthly calendar. You may need to adjust the position of the calendar for better centering on the 8.5" x 11" page. After establishing your page setup in the Calendar file, go to the layout, "Print Template" and enter the layout mode. Choose SELECT ALL from the Edit pull down menu. All objects in the layout will then be selected. While pressing the shift key drag the entire group to the right to the desired position. Note the right page boundary, indicated by a heavy rope like boundary. Do not allow any of the calendar objects to extend over that line.
6. IMPORTANT: When printing the Weekly Schedule or Monthly Calendar, choose the Grayscale option in the Print dialog box.
7. The print option is available for the Weekly view, Monthly view, Daily Notes, and To Do List. Always use the [Print] button on the screen instead of the Print command in the File pull down menu.
*NOTE: If you have a laser printer, you may have the option to increase the print area on the page. If available, choose [options] in the Page Setup dialog box.
Select “Larger print area, fewer downloadable fonts”. Do this every time you are instructed to change the Page Setup in the instructions above.
DATE FORMATS
Does the Calendar grid display only 12 days instead of the full month? Here's why ........
This Daily Planner is designed to work on Macintosh systems with internal date formats posted as MONTH/DAY/YEAR. If your system is set up as DAY/MONTH/YEAR (common in Great Britain) or other format, the Calendar will not function properly. You can set the Date Format in the Date and Time Control Panel in your System Folder. If you wish to operate in the DAY/MONTH/YEAR mode, request the special UK version of Daily Planner when you send your registration fee.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT
My thanks to Bruce Robertson of Bellevue, Washington for supplying methods used in the "To Do List Manager". CUSTOMIZING THE DAILY PLANNER
The files in this template are not password protected. You have unrestricted access to all layouts, field definitions, and scripts. This allows you to add buttons and fields or alter screen layouts for your own needs. If you make any revisions to Daily Planner, do so for your use only and keep a copy of the original version for back up and distribution to others.
I often get requests to make custom revisions. I have been providing this service at no charge to registered users as long as the request does not involve a major restructuring of the files.
SHAREWARE PITCH
This file is 100% functional with unrestricted access to all features except for the "Reset" option. I spent many hours putting this together and would hope that you feel it is worthy of the shareware fee of $15.00. ($17.00 outside USA) The "Reset" function will set up the planner for the new year (or any year you specify). It requires the presence of a special "Planner Reset" file. Include your mailing address with your shareware fee and I'll mail a disk to you with the latest version of Daily Planner and Planner Reset. A site license for network use or multiple installations is available for $45.00. ($47.00 outside USA)
All updates and revisions are free to registered users. If you plan to redistribute this program to a BBS or on-line service, include the folder intact with all supporting files, including this Read Me File. If you wish to distribute this file as part of a shareware collection or as a "module" within another template, please request permission before proceeding. Drop me an E mail note if you have any questions or comments.
Use the Registration form (included in the Planner folder) and send the $15.00 shareware fee to:

MULTI YEAR VERSIONS
• In response to numerous requests........ Two, three, and five year versions of Daily Planner are available at no charge to registered users. These templates allow direct and seamless access to future years for those who need to plan well in advance. Now in addition to the 14 month Planner, those who register will be able to choose the Planner template that is best for them. The 14 month version will suit most people, but if you require longer term planning, the multi year version is for you. The screens have been revised to help manuever through the available years, and the multi year versions occupy more drive space. Otherwise, the look and mechanics of the file are identical to the 14 month shareware version. Just indicate your preference on the registration form.
Those who have already registered a previous version of Daily Planner, may choose from these multi year versions at no charge. Just drop me a note via E mail if you would like to receive one of these new multi year Daily Planners.
